We began the new year in the spirit of collaboration! We are excited to announce our series of collaborative webinars with other Special Interest groups this year. We hope you are ready for some learning and engagement!

We started the year with a joint webinar with Learning Technologies (LTSIG) on the topic “Exploring the impact of Generative AI on language education: insights from teachers.” In this webinar, the speakers will explore language teachers’ use and attitudes to Gen-AI by drawing on findings from a recent study involving surveys from teachers from 70 countries and in-depth focus groups.

In February, we collaborate with Teacher Development SIG (TDSIG) to present to you a webinar on “Analysing teachers’ discourse around assessment: A critical discourse analysis perspective.” This webinar will focus on exploring teachers’ discourse construction of assessment, to understand their beliefs around this notion, with the assumption that looking at teachers’ conceptualisations might allow schools and organisations to devise professional development programmes that are more finely tuned to staff development needs.

March brings us into working with English for Specific Purposes SIG (ESPSIG). The topic of this webinar is “Testing and Mediation: What if the Test-takers Think Outside the Box?” The webinar focuses on evaluating mediation tasks and goes on to explore whether CEFR would help teachers assess these tasks fairly and consider what is acceptable and what is not.

We join hands with Inclusive Practices and Special Educational Needs SIG (IPSENSIG) in May to bring you another exciting webinar on “Supporting writers in producing inclusive assessment content.” This webinar will focus on the findings from the analysis of data obtained by conducting an extensive, retrospective diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) review of a Pearson test item bank and how the findings influenced a training program for item writers to improve the items banks from the DE&I perspective.

In June, we will present to you a webinar on the topic “Equitable Assessments for Multilingual Learners: Integrating Socioculturally Responsive and Personalized Assessment Approaches.” This webinar focuses on the development of a classroom assessment for formative use designed to better assess and support the reading and literacy development of multilingual learners, we employed socioculturally responsive and personalized assessment approaches in developing a classroom assessment for formative use.

In September, we collaborate with Young Learners and Teenagers SIG (YLTSIG) on a webinar on “Student Feedback Assessment.” This webinar is based on an action research study carried out to at lower secondary level that sought to identify the perception of students regarding the type of formative feedback they were regularly provided with by their teachers, access grounded information on their learning and aid the curriculum development in English Language and Literature.
